Skills and Qualifications

Professional degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Planning, or Landscape Architecture

Close to completing professional licensure; LEED Accreditation preferred

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, Grasshopper, Adobe Creative Suite, and rendering software

Excellent research, visualization, diagramming, and presentation skills

Advanced understanding of planning, zoning codes, infrastructure, and implementation strategies

Fluency in Spanish preferred

Ability to lead small teams and mentor junior staff

Strong communication skills (written, oral, visual)

ExperienceMinimum 4 years of professional experience Experience in large-scale planning, mixed-use, or TOD projects (preferably in North America) International project exposure is a plus
Salary$80,000 – $95,000 (based on experience, location, and qualifications)

Job Description

As an Urban Designer at SOM, you will:
• Develop sophisticated and visionary urban design concepts
• Conduct and direct precedent studies, research, and site analysis
• Produce detailed plans, graphics, and visual materials
• Support project delivery with quality control and interdisciplinary integration
• Engage with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to deliver high-impact urban solutions
• Participate in firm-wide knowledge sharing, mentoring, and sustainability strategy implementation
• Contribute to project scheduling, documentation, and financial performance
• Lead smaller project teams and support senior leadership in design excellence
