Description

This annual competition invites multidisciplinary student teams to create a cutting-edge planning and design proposal for a site within the host city of the 2025 National Planning Conference (NPC). The focus is on reimagining auto-oriented landscapes and creating policy and design solutions that address community needs such as affordable housing, retail, and public spaces.

Eligibility

Teams of 3 to 5 students enrolled in a college or university during the competition period. All team members must be registered APA student members.

Important dates

• 15 July 2024: Project site announcement
• 14 August 2024: Competition prompt release and registration begins
• 15 December 2024: Registration deadline
• 27 January 2025: Proposal entry deadline
• 24 February 2025: Initial jury deliberation begins
• 3 March 2025: Finalist notification
• 29 March – 1 April 2025: Finalist presentations at NPC25

Registration Details

Register via the APA website (planning.org/students/awards/designcompetition). All teams must register by 15 December 2024.

Competition Jury

Two juries – one for initial selection and another for finalist presentations.

Composed of experienced practitioners and emerging planning professionals.

Prizes

Awards and recognition to be determined based on finalist presentations at NPC25.
