The Guwahati Development Department oversees the all-round development of Guwahati City through the development works carried out by Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sewerage Board, and the Guwahati Smart City Project. GDD exercises administrative control and monitors the activities of these organisations and releases funds for the various developmental schemes to be undertaken by them. Sometimes, the various departments of Government of Assam including PWD, Water Resources, and Town & Country Planning etc. are also involved in executing the development projects.
