The Cultural Center has as its main goal to bring to the city of Porto Alegre a cultural equipment of a great relevance since, in contemporary cities, they are fundamental for the promotion of events related to art and culture and also bring vitality to public spaces. For its insertion, the funder is the Banco do Brasil’s Cultural Centers program, whose purpose is to act as an agent to promote brazilian culture and to offer society significant artistic expressions, providing interactive and transformative experiences.
The location was chosen based on two aspects: cultural relevance to the city and the existence of an adequate public to the program.
Porto Alegre has a cultural focus in the historical center. What is suggested is the inclusion of the project outside of it, in order to re qualify unexplored sites in another region of socio-cultural effervescence. The chosen site is currently used as a parking lot, in an area of cultural interest, located next to the most traditional park in the city, where many events take place.
The project seeks to transmit the values of the CCBB Program through architecture itself and is developed by means of elevated volumes in order to allow permeability, creating a passage that works as an urban hall, bringing the city into the area.
