Introduction

The live 1-day InDesign workshop offers a focused introduction to professional layout design for architecture, urban design, planning, and creative portfolios. Beginning with the fundamentals of Adobe InDesign interface navigation, the session focuses on page setup, grid systems, typography, image placement, master pages, and export settings for high-quality digital and print outputs.

Participants will learn to organize visual content, structure multi-page documents, and create clean, presentation-ready layouts through practical, hands-on exercises, enabling them to design professional portfolios, reports, booklets, competition sheets, and academic submissions with clarity and consistency.

01. InDesign Fundamentals:

Essential skills to create, navigate, and manage professional layout documents.

02. Page Setup & Grid Systems:

Techniques to set margins, columns, guides, baseline grids, and structured layouts.

03. Typography & Text Styling:

Understanding font hierarchy, paragraph styles, character styles, and text flow.

04. Image & Graphic Placement:

Methods to import, crop, align, resize, and organize visual content efficiently.

05. Master Layout Consistency:

Using master pages, page numbers, headers, footers, and repeated design elements.

06. Print-Ready Workflows:

Preparing high-quality PDF outputs for digital submission, printing, and portfolio sharing.

A. InDesign Interface and Document Setup

  • Introduction to the Adobe InDesign workspace and essential tools
  • Creating a new document with correct page size, margins, columns, and bleed
  • Understanding pages, spreads, master pages, layers, and guides
  • Setting up a structured layout system for portfolios, reports, and publications

B. Layout Design and Publication Workflow

  • Developing clean page compositions using grids and alignment principles
  • Working with text frames, image frames, typography, and visual hierarchy
  • Creating consistent headers, footers, page numbers, legends, and annotations
  • Preparing export-ready PDFs for digital submission, printing, and portfolio presentation

C. Portfolio Composition and Visual Storytelling

  • Organizing projects into clear portfolio narratives from concept to final outcome
  • Placing plans, sections, elevations, renders, diagrams, and process sketches in a structured layout
  • Creating strong visual hierarchy between drawings, images, captions, and project descriptions
  • Designing portfolio spreads that communicate design intent, site context, process, and final proposal clearly.

Session Duration

The Masterclass, including interactive Q&A sessions, runs for approximately 2.5 hours each day.

The masterclass sessions will be conducted in English and held online via Google Meet on both the days.
