Skills and Qualifications

• Master’s degree with a specialization in Climate Science/ Environmental Science/ GIS/ Environment Technology and Atmospheric Sciences and closely related fields
• Understanding of climate risks, disaster risk reduction, and dynamic risk assessments
• Experience in dealing and analyzing with spatial and meta-data
• Minimum one-two year research experience of conducting spatial and meta-analysis, climatological analysis preferably with re/insurance company and/or model through catastrophic risk modelling.
• A fair understanding of satellite imaging and modeling tools that are used for risk assessments

Experience• Must have strong research skills • Willingness to conduct frequent field visits/meetings with stakeholder • Willingness to work on multi-disciplinary projects • Good written and oral communication skills • Experience working with software programmes such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and spatial analysis tool like ArcGIS, QGIS etc. is a must • Experience in using climate models like GRADS/ Python, MARS, MODFLOW, etc. is a plus • Experience in data collection preferred • Experience in dealing with stakeholders (farmers, grassroot workers, government, climatologists etc.) preferred

Job Description

• Researching and mining data from structured, semi-structured and unstructured sources to develop and improve our exposure maps and products.
• Strong mathematical foundation with focus on physics-based and numerical modelling of natural systems
• To perform spatially and meta-analysis of climatological variables using mapping and ML-based tools
• Developing and optimizing data collection systems using strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
• Knowledge and research experience in mapping tools like ARC GIS/Q-GIS is a must.
• Identifying, analysing, and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets using statistical techniques
• Support in developing climatological models and big data analytical tools.
• Strong ability in modelling languages (e.g. R, Python), and tools like GRADS, MARS ,etc. and modern systems of scientific repeatability and engineering scalability (e.g. GitHub)
• Develop tools and user-interfaced products based on data and analytics on different extreme climate events
• To support and contribute to the sectoral risk assessments
• To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of the climate risks
• To assist the team to work on multi-disciplinary projects, proposal writing and project development
• To conduct field surveys: questionnaire designing, coordinating with field staffs
