Skills and Qualifications

• HBO-level working and thinking (Dutch higher education level)
• Affinity with data-driven 3D urban design
• Interest in urban planning at area and district scales
• Proficiency in creating visuals, maps, and design research materials
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Experience with collaborative workflows involving developers, architects, and city departments

Experience

Some relevant experience in urban design (internships/project work) preferred

Entry-level candidates welcome with strong design portfolio

Salary€3,489 to €4,998 (based on hours and experience level)

Organisation Details

The Municipality of Amsterdam is seeking a Junior Urban Designer to join its Noordflank Team, working on the iconic NDSM development area. The role offers an opportunity to shape large-scale urban interventions in one of Amsterdam’s most dynamic neighborhoods, alongside planners, designers, and external consultants.

Job Description

As a Junior Urban Designer, you will:
• Contribute to design and implementation of area-level plans in NDSM
• Work with senior planners on tasks ranging from research to design production
• Create maps, visuals, and diagrams to support planning proposals
• Assist in internal coordination with Land and Development teams
• Collaborate with external architects and developers
• Participate in a positive and supportive team environment focused on design quality
• Receive onboarding, mentorship, and training during your first months
